All through grade school they pounded so many things into my head under the precept of making me a "well rounded" student. I fell for that line of thinking and soaked everything in that I could. But, when I entered the "real world" it didn't take me long to realize that people who specialize in one thing are rewarded much more (in recognition, in payment, etc.) than those who are able to do many things modestly well. Now I understand the principles of supply and demand and those who specialize in specific areas earn what they get, due to their depth of knowledge. So, bottom-line, being well rounded isn't as preferred as being finely tuned. I see many schools now have figured that out and are offering specific fields of study in what they call "magnet" schools. I was born at the wrong time I guess.
