Helping by charging you more!

The "green" initiative is admirable to a certain extent. It helps to ensure we are good stewards of our resources. However, most of the people pushing this initiative simply don't see past the short term benefits. They continue to promise cost savings, yet fail to realize the basic tenants of supply and demand. Sure, today you can convert your car engine so it runs on used french fry oil and run your car for free (if you talk a burger joint into giving your their discarded oil). However, what would happen if every car on the road did the same? Do you think used french fry oil would be free then? Not at all. In fact, the cost of that french fry oil might even surpase that of what we pay for fossil fuels today! So always look at green initiatives with a critical eye and don't fall for everything you read or hear.

We Have Very Attractive Rates

We're in the dog days of Summer and gas is still hovering around the $4 per gallon mark. Won't be long before our local family-owned gas stations start getting into the loan business too, or at least start renting out space to immediate "cash advance" businesses. Perhaps gas pump terminals can ask other relevant questions while pumping gas, such as:
  • Are you tired of high gas prices?
  • Do you regret owning a car right now?
  • Have you given up buying food to buy gas yet?
Okay, may be a bit too cynical there. However it is easy to be cynical when, during a period of record high gas prices, the government's "solution" is to consider raising gas taxes. Gee, that would really help.
