Paraskavedekatriaphobia, the fear of Friday the 13th. The day has arrived. Everyone doing ok so far? Good. Never did understand why all the fear and superstition surrounding the chance match up between a Friday and the thirteenth of a month. Some historical events aside, it is just another day. Just like I don't understand people who freak out on New Year's Eve just because the year is ending. It is just a date. A number assigned to the day in chronological order. Nothing more! Now excuse me, I have to look out for black cats crossing my path and avoid walking under ladders.
Oh, those day-after-Thanksgiving early "door buster" sales at local department stores! What would we do without them? Sleep in. I'm proud to say I've only indulged in this early morning ritual once or twice, but never before the doors were set to open. I've seen too many news footage clips showing hordes of women, from college age to senior citizens, turn a department store into their own version of Spain's running of the bulls, only more dangerous. Time to fear for your life! All for the honor of buying something they (or their intended recipients) don't need. But it is on sale, you must have it!
