Heard recently that several newspaper organizations will cease production of their paper version of the newspaper. And these are large newspaper organizations throwing in the towel which is the most shocking. However, this industry change is inevitable. With the focus on "green" business models coupled with the fact that by the time you get the newspaper unfolded to read, the news is what you've already read about online... the day before! I haven't subscribed to a newspaper in quite some time now. Got tired of seeing the local college football team get primary focus, no matter what news event happened in the country. If it doesn't affect or promote the local college football team, it just doesn't get put in our local newspaper. Quite sad to have a real world newspaper budget but they act like a student run newspaper. But I digress. Technology has a way of changing everything and newspapers are finally succumbing to the rush of technology, has happened with televisions, radio, automobiles, just about everything if you think about it.

Happens every year. I sit down and watch the Super Bowl on TV. Not because my favorite team is playing for the championship (hasn't happened since 1984), but because I know it is the last football game of the season. That sense of impending loss forces me to tune in and enjoy it while it lasts. When the final whistle blows there's a void in the hearts and minds of sports fans every where. Sure there's basketball to watch, some professional golf, but it is difficult to fill that emptiness. At least until baseball spring training starts!

The thought struck me the other day as I was contemplating why my fantasy sports teams are so bad: when exactly did fantasies go from super models to big sweaty athletes?! Must come with getting older, kind of like unsightly ear hair, lesser attuned hearing, forgetting your turn signal is on, keen interest in the Matlock and Murder She Wrote TV shows, etc. Okay, well maybe not there yet.

Ah yes, anyone who's taken an art class knows what it is to find a subject for a still life sketch. Surely the typical American male during football season qualifies. I'm guilty, I'll admit. I can definitely set some endurance records for time spent not moving when my favorite team is playing. Takes a strong commitment with lots of practice and determination. Now what did I do with that TV remote?
