Hitting a Few Golf Balls

I don't play as many rounds of golf as I used to, but I do find my way to the driving range on occasion to keep my swing up. However, when I go I'm amused not only at the size of the golf ball buckets you can purchase, but that I see people carrying more than one of these huge buckets! Unless you're a pro golfer, I'm not sure it is worth paying all that money and be at the driving range all day long. I guess everyone needs a hobby.

Becoming Part of the Furniture

Happens every year. I sit down and watch the Super Bowl on TV. Not because my favorite team is playing for the championship (hasn't happened since 1984), but because I know it is the last football game of the season. That sense of impending loss forces me to tune in and enjoy it while it lasts. When the final whistle blows there's a void in the hearts and minds of sports fans every where. Sure there's basketball to watch, some professional golf, but it is difficult to fill that emptiness. At least until baseball spring training starts!

Boulder on a Stick

I'm constantly amazed at the size of some of the golf clubs people pull out of their bags these days. They are the size of a European car! Those things can block out the sun for 3 counties during the person's back swing! Can these things get any bigger without adversely affecting Earth's gravitational pull?

A Good Lesson Spoiled

If you've played golf for a number of years, chances are you've already internalized all the little things you have to do in order to hit a little white ball (that is not moving, by the way). So the process seems rather simple, though results obviously vary. However, I tried teaching my 6-year-old daughter how to hit a golf ball the other day and as I rattled off all the things she needed to remember, it struck me how much you have to know in order to hit the ball. I think I succeeded tremendously in confusing her.
